10 Things Floridians Love About Their State

When people think of Florida, they think of warm weather, beautiful beaches, and Walt Disney World. As a non-Florida native, or “Florida Transplant”, that is what I used to immediately think of. However, after living in Florida for many years now, and realizing how much more the state has to offer, I decided to ask fellow Floridians what they love most about the state.

1. No State Income Tax

Florida is one of the few states that doesn’t require residents to pay state income tax. This allows Florida residents to save more of their money from each paycheck and place it towards other things such as activities, vacations, and savings.

2. Best Beaches in America

Florida has access to 663 miles of sandy beaches. Not only is there an endless amount of surf, sun, and sand, but Florida is home to some of the most beautiful beaches including Siesta Key Beach, Clearwater Beach, and the Florida Keys.

3. Warm Weather Year Round

When it is 20 degrees everywhere else in the county, it’s sunny and 75 in South Florida. Many northern U.S. residents get tired of defrosting their car windows in the morning, or shoveling snow out of their driveway. In the southern part of Florida, a rare “cold front” usually consists of only 65 degree weather.

4. Affordable Real Estate and Living Costs

Overall, the cost of living in Florida is very affordable compared to many other U.S. cities. Unless you’re living in a higher end area of Florida (such as Miami), the price of goods, services, and housing is lower than the national average.

5. Theme Parks

Florida is home to the most famous and visited theme parks in the world, Walt Disney World. People travel from all over the world to Orlando, Florida just to visit Disney World. Right around the corner, Florida is also known for Universal Studios, home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which also attracts visitors from all around the world. The best part is, Florida Residents receive great discounts to these theme parks.

6. Diverse Culture

Florida has very diverse culture. You will find people of every age, nationality, and background imaginable. Many people residing in Florida are transplants, meaning they were born and raised outside of Florida. Also given its’ coastal location, Florida attracts a large international population which gives it many different authentic cultural foods. For example, Miami is known to have some of the best authentic Cuban restaurants in America.

7. Sports

From baseball to football, Florida has a variety of sports teams to cheer on. Florida is home to 3 National Football League teams, 2 professional baseball teams, 2 professional basketball teams, 2 professional hockey teams, and many college football teams. In addition to this, many Major League Baseball teams hold their spring training in cities throughout Florida.

8. There is Always Something To Do

Florida has no shortage of activities do to each day. Popular water activities include boating, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and jet skiing. Whether it’s water sports, dropping by an art gallery, or gambling at the famous Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Florida always has something unique to offer.

9. Vacation Where you Live

Many people have to travel hundreds of miles to visit some of the best locations throughout Florida. However for Florida residents, they’re just miles away from amusement parks, famous beaches, and some of the most visited cities. I personally live only half a mile away from the famous Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, and Fort Lauderdale Beach. A day trip to me, is a 7 day expensive, vacation to some.

10. Great Food

Florida has no shortage of delicious food to choose from. From Cuban coffee, Caribbean style foods, to fresh produce, there is something for everyone. No matter where you live in Florida there is something tasty and fresh.
